John 20:1-10: Burial, Resurrection, Disciples (Will Rutt)
Context: It's Sunday morning on the original Resurrection day (which we celebrate as Easter), and Mary Magdalene and the disciples were in for a shock...
Text: Read John 19:17-37. Don’t rush. Feel the story. What stands out to you?

YOLO vs Be Steadfast Immoveable Always Abounding In The Work Of The Lord
(aka - Live stupid vs Do the next right thing)
Jesus had mourners (in this passage) but not a funeral. What kind of burial and memorial service would you like, and why?
V20:1: Why is it important that John identifies Mary of Magdala by name? How does this minor detail confirm the text is true?
It makes the account verifiable to the readers - now they can go to Magdala and ask - did she see what John says she saw?
It gives credit to a woman - in the 1st century, a woman's testimony was not official. So why record it, unless that's how it really happened.
V2-9: What emotions might Peter and John have experienced as they ran to the tomb and found it empty? Imagine the tension between faith and confusion. How do we experience this now? Tell that story...
V8-9: What do you think John believed in this moment? What does that tell us about faith? Can we believe without all the answers? How?
I Cor 15:12-19: (see above graphic) Why is it a problem if Jesus didn't actually rise from the dead?
I Cor 15:55-8: Note the "therefore" in V58. How do verses 55-7 lead to V58?
Describe the difference in the two lives below. How can we walk on the right?

John 20:10-31: Appearances - Mary, Disciples, Thomas; book purpose (Adam Richardson)
Context: Following the discovery of the empty tomb, Christ now begins to reveal Himself to individuals, tying into John's purpose for writing
Text: Read John 20:10-31. Don’t rush. What stands out to you?

V30-1: What is the purpose for the book - and does John seem to be fulfilling it so far?
V10-18: In all four gospels, Jesus appears first to Mary. What does this tell us about Jesus?
V16: Why do you think Mary recognizes Jesus only when He calls her name?
V17: Mary is grieving, then encounters the risen Christ, but also discovers He will not be remaining with them. What emotions might all that evoke? How does this help us in our grieving the loss of loved ones?
V19-23: What is the main thing Christ brought the disciples? How can we experience that today?
V24-29: Somebody speak up for Thomas - what can be said in his defense!? In what ways can we identify with Thomas?
What does Jesus DO for the disciples and NOT do for them? How does that apply in our lives?
