GATHERING RECAP: Questions for Sun Mar 1
Message: We are servants - imitate us (Will Rutt)
Text: I Corinthians 3:18-4:21
Context: Paul concludes the opening section addressing division around favorite Christian leaders and tasks, reminding that all in God's family are servants.
Relate: What was your takeaway from the "I" on the pedastal? Why is this a bad idea?
Text: Scan through I Corinthians 3:18-4:21. What stands out?
V21: What does Paul mean "all things belong to you"?
What are the things Paul lists in V21-23?
What is the reasoning in V16-20?
What would it look and sound like if we acted in real life like "all things belong to us" in the healthy way Paul means here?
V1-5: What's the difference between healthy admiration for a leader who has helped you, and unhealthy divisiveness in promoting them?
V7: BIG - Why does Paul ask the question, "What do you have that you did not receive?" What is the implied answer, and what does that mean for our pride (V6)?
V8-13: Paul goes on a sarcastic rant (FYI - a common and entertaining tactic in ancient near-eastern rhetoric - not being a jerk! effective for logical force delivered in comic relief) - in this contrast below, what point is Paul making? (Hint - imagine a parent talking to a demanding and brash 2 year-old, "Yes your little highness, what else can I, your most lowly and devoted servant, provide for your whimsicle-ness?!?")

Reflect: Are we ever demanding or pushy with God? What does it sound like when we do this?
Growth: What is a key application you take from this passage / message?
