John 21:7-17: Jesus & Peter (Will Rutt)
Context: After the initial resurrection appearances, over a period of 40 days Jesus meets with the disciples several times - here is one significant dialogue between Jesus and Peter...
Text: Read John 21:7-17. Don’t rush. Feel the story. What stands out to you?

OPEN: Holidays are coming - what hopes or challenges can we share and pray for? (Check out the recent Sandhurst blog on thriving through family gatherings...)
Sermon Review: What does the graphic above mean? (hint: I Corinthians 15:58) Why did Will include it in this message about Jesus and Peter?
V1-3: Why do you think the disciples went back to fishing?
V5-6: Why do you think Jesus gave them a huge catch of fish? (Anyone else see the humor of God in this?)
V9: The second coal fire in the NT. What redemptive purpose does Jesus have in this? (hint see John 18:18)
V9-10: Jesus was already roasting bread and fish (V13), and yet invites them to bring some of theirs. What does this show us about God's design for us?
V15-17: Some of the most well-known verses in the New Testament. Why do you think Jesus has this dialogue with Peter? How might it address Jesus' relationship with Peter and help Peter heal from the past and strengthen for the future?
Why is it encouraging that after such a magnificent failure, Jesus very soon (weeks at most) comes to Peter to invite to fellowship and mission?
Have someone explain each of the four lines below...

V18: What is Jesus' message to Peter in this sentence?
V20-21: Why do you think Peter asks about John?
V22: Paraphrase Jesus' answer in your own words. Why did He answer this way? What lesson is there here for us?
V23: What was the rumor about John, and what does that tell us about human nature?
Why is it hard for us to avoid comparing? What are the perils there? And the advantages of avoiding it?
