Parent Partnership: Wednesday (1/4/23) and Sunday (1/8/23)

Updated: Jan 4, 2023

Everything a parent needs to build on what we teach at church this week is here. You’ll find the Scripture passages, the specific pages in our children’s Bible, the teaching video, and some questions to use at home. Thanks for leading your kids into the Word of God. Read with them. Pray with them. It will matter. (Tools we use: The Beginner’s Gospel Story Bible is available at the Faith@Home wall for $5. And RightNowMedia is free!)

Volunteer team-members can find lessons and other specifics by logging into Planning Center Services. Once you’ve logged in, just click the date you are serving, and you will find everything you need.

On Wednesday at 6pm, we will have KidsOnMission! Dinner is $3 for individual kids with a $7 max for families. Here is some of the key information:

  • At 5:15, there is kids-choir. It is a great opportunity for kids to learn music, teamwork, and about worshiping Jesus together through singing.

  • KidsOnMission officially starts at 6pm with sandwiches this week and then a fun time of learning from the Word. Specifically, Wednesday nights help kids see the Bible and mission in context. We want them to understand what it means to go with God’s Word into God’s world.

  • We will be focusing on Jesus’ power to forgive sins this week (Matthew 9:1-13; Mark 2:1-17; Luke 5:17-31). Here is a short video of the passage. And, since this story also shows Jesus healing, we are examining some very cool medical missions that Christians are doing to show the Good News around the world.

On Sunday, there are exciting things happening as well!

  • At 9am, there is Sunday School. We devote this time to helping our kids get into the Word in age-appropriate ways. They not only hear the Bible taught, but they also get a chance to look into it for themselves. This becomes more and more of a personal skill as they grow older.

  • During the Gathering, the preschoolers will continue moving through the The Beginner’s Gospel Story Bible. We are looking at Story 2 (pages 8-13) which highlights important elements from Genesis 2:4-3:4 about Adam and Eve Disobeying. And the elementary students in the Kids Gathering will dig into 1 John 4:13-21 and we’ll look at Jesus the Savior. You can see our teaching video here.

Questions for Families to Discuss (before/after Sunday):

  • What is so bad about disobeying God? What caused Adam and Eve to go off-track? What causes us to get off-track?

  • People who trust in Jesus can have confidence even on the Day of Judgment. What does it mean to trust in Jesus?

  • Why can people who trust in Jesus be confident that they will never be in trouble with God?

Family Prayer Prompt: God, we thank you for sending Jesus to be the Savior of the world — even while we were still sinners. Help us to grow to trust you more and more. We want to be people who trust you to forgive our sin, and who trust you enough to turn from sin.
