Opener: This past Sunday we engaged the text and prayer and communion - it was a more participatory service. What part impacted you the most and why? Any personal love culture experiences to share?

Context: Jesus is in the upper room preparing the disciples for a new season without His presence, BUT focusing on love, fruitful living, prayer, Holy Spirit and suffering...

  2. LOVE: Scan John 13:1-17 - What's your takeaway?

  3. HOLY SPIRIT: Scan John 14:16-17, 25-26; 16:5-8 - What's your takeaway?

  4. PRAYER: John 14:8-14; 15:7-7, 16 - What's your takeaway?

John 18:1-18, 25-6: Arrest, Denial, Questioning (Will Rutt)

Context: After the Last Supper / Upper Room, Jesus is arrested and the disciples scatter. Peter is confronted and disappoints both Christ and Himself - now what!?

Text: John 18:1-18, 25-6. Don't rush. Enter the story...

  1. V4: Why do you think Jesus asked this question if he knew the answer?

  2. V6, 11: What do we see about Jesus' power and love in these verses?

  3. V8-9: If love is "steadfast sacrificial zeal that seeks the true good of another":

    1. In what way was Jesus loving the disciples? The crowd?

    2. In what way was the Father loving Jesus?

  4. V10: Why do you think John includes the servant's name Malchus?

  5. V10, 17 (& 25-6):  Why do you think Peter acts so differently in these verses, and how can we spot and avoid that same temptation?
