John 16:29-33: "These things..." (Will Rutt)
Opener: Many of us watched Charlie Kirk’s memorial service. For those who did, what did you find compelling in a good way? (This is not a time to share what you found annoying or wrong about it, or to air political grievances - please focus on the good in the service).
Context: Jesus is in the upper room preparing the disciples for a new season without His presence, BUT remaining in joy, endurance and peace...
Text: Read John 16:19-33. Don’t rush. Feel the story. What stands out to you?

How would you rate your joy, endurance, and peace? (1 being low, 10 being high). Why?
Will talked about “spitting facts on our feelings”, and giving someone an open invitation to do that on your behalf.
What truths have helped your joy, endurance and peace?
Who have you given an open invitation to speak into your life?
Any stories in the group about how that has helped you?
Read 1 Samuel 23:15-18. What struck you about Jonathan’s words to David? How can this help you when you are encouraging someone?
“These things...” Jesus spoke related to joy, endurance and peace were factually true AND intensely personal. Where do you see Jesus’ words being “intensely personal” in the upper room?
Do you feel like you know Jesus (be honest)? Why or why not? Think of some moments where people went from knowing ABOUT Jesus to really KNOWING Jesus. How does this help inform the steps to knowing God?
Growth: What is a key application you take from this passage / message?
Prayer: Practice again this pattern for prayer together:
Review: silently reflect on your upcoming day/week & what you need
Pray: Believe that He can do it & Ask Him to provide it
Go: Trust what He does & Praise Him no matter what
Consider ahead: Next Sunday, September 28, 2025
John 13-17: Upper Room (Will Rutt)
