GATHERING: Q'S for next Sunday May 3
Message: Godly Fellowship - Meat offered to idols (Will Rutt)
Text: 1 Cor 8:1-13, 10:12-33
Context: Can new believers eat meat purchased in the market that was previously part of idol worship? Where do we draw the line between bystander and participator?
Relate: A bit of humor - if you're single, what is a myth about singles you find humorous? Or a humorous myth about marriage if you're married?
Text: Scan through 1 Cor 8:1-13, 10:12-33. What stands out?
Ch 8, V9: the famous "stumbling block" verse. How does Paul define a stumbling block? How do we keep this from shutting down all behaviors to the lowest bar of conscience?
V9-12: Four times Paul uses the word "weak." Who is the weaker brother in this scenario? Do they seem weak, and if not, how do you recognize them?
Have you ever been tempted to sin by another believer, i.e. had a stumbling block put in your way? Why was that difficult, and what helped you overcome?
Ch 10, V13: This verse is often misquoted as saying "God won't give you more than you can bear" - which is totally false. What is the true statement, and how does God help?
V31: Paul's summary. How can we practice this? Give real life examples...
Growth: What is a key application you take from this passage?
