Looking Ahead: Q's for Gathering 5/10 & Equipping

Podcast on 1 Cor 8, Conscience & Love sermon w Will & Adam here

GATHERING: Q'S for next Sunday May 10

Message: Godly Fellowship - Supporting the church family (Will Rutt)

Context: Paul is answering questions from the Corinthians, and here he is answering: Is it less spiritual to be bi-vocational or married as a minister? And what responsibility does a church have to its ministers?

  1. Relate: If you could talk to your younger self from 20+ years ago, what would you tell the younger you to care less about? Care more about?

  2. Text: Scan through 1 Cor 9:1-18. What stands out?

  3. V7-12a: What arguments does Paul offer for the rightness of a church supporting its ministers?

  4. V12b-18: Paul repeats his point about a minister's support, then lays it down - why does he do this?

  5. What might be the difference between Paul as an evangelist being self-funded, versus Peter pastoring a group of believers and being supported? How might that look today?

  6. Have you ever directly supported a missionary - and why did you support them as opposed to the people they work among?

  7. Paul lays down his rights for the sake of others. When have you done that - and what helped you do it with a willing heart?

  8. Growth: What is a key application you take from this passage?

  9. Prayer
