Parent Partnership: Wednesday (12/14/22) and Sunday (12/18/22)

Everything a parent needs to build on what we teach at church this week is here. You’ll find the Scripture passages, the specific pages in our children’s Bible, the teaching video, and some questions to use at home. Thanks for leading your kids into the Word of God. Read with them. Pray with them. It will matter.

On Wednesday, we will study Mark 4:35-41 (Jesus Calms the Storm) with the preschool and elementary school kids. We will highlight self-control and Jesus’ awesome power. Jesus has control over everything. Scripture shows his power over the storm! And, it also tells us about his full control of Himself. We can’t control weather like He does, but through the Spirit, we can control our own words and actions. Self-control is important in carrying out God’s mission to the world.

Questions for Families to Discuss (before/after Wednesday):

  • The disciples were afraid of the storm. Then, when Jesus stopped the storm, the disciples were afraid again because they saw his great power. Does the power of Jesus amaze you?

  • When we are Spirit-controlled, we grow in self-control. What are some ways that being self-controlled can help us represent Jesus well in our homes, schools, etc.?

On Sunday, during the Gathering, the preschoolers will learn about Matthew 2:1-12 (Wise Men Bring Presents). You can find this in The Beginner’s Gospel Story Bible on pages 170-175. And the elementary students in the Kids Gathering will dig into 1 John 4:1-6 (Jesus Became One of Us). You can see our teaching video here.

Questions for Families to Discuss (before/after Sunday):

  • Why is it so amazing that God would become a human person?

  • The wise men brought gifts to Him. They wanted to worship. What can we do in response to Jesus’ coming to save us?

Family Prayer Prompt: God, you can do anything. You can stop a storm with only your words! And you chose to come to our world to save us. Help us to praise you for being with us!
