GATHERING RECAP: Questions for Sun Mar 22

Message: Glorifying God (Pt 3): Lawsuits: Glorifying God over "rights" (Hal Irvine)

Context: Paul continues his challenge to the church - here correcting proud lawsuits between believers which degrade us and our gospel witness


  1. Relate: Has anyone had a GOOD experience reconciling conflict with another believer, esp regarding significant or even legal issues? Did a third party help? Tell that story...

  2. Text: Scan through I Corinthians 6:1-11. What stands out?

  3. V1: Try to feel this text - ever seen kids fight and constantly come to mom & dad complaining and demanding judgment on the other party? Ever just wish they would "work it out"? Explain how God might feel that way too...

  4. They were stuck in a "hellenistic dualism" meaning they thought they could believe one way, and act another way. How are we guilty of this?

  5. V1-6: There are many layers to this problem - what are some of them?

  6. V5: What's the core problem here that Paul is addressing? How would wisdom solve this? Reflect on what Paul is suggesting....

  7. V7-8: What solution does Paul suggest?

  8. V9-11: Who won't inherit the kingdom of God and why?

  9. V11: What gospel truth does Paul point to, and how does it apply here?

  10. "Too many think too lightly of their sin and therefore too lightly of their Savior." (Spurgeon) How would "right sizing" our debt to God help us here?

  11. Growth: What is a key application you take from this passage / message?
