5th Sunday + Parent Partnership

5th Sundays Are for You

During the 10:15 Gathering on 4/30, instead of dismissing the elementary kids after the singing, they will remain in the service with their families. We do this on 5th Sundays and it is a great opportunity for our whole church. We love and believe in what we do during our weekly KidsGathering events in the gym, but we also understand that it is good for kids and parents to hear the Word together. That’s why we do these special all-together Gatherings a few times each year. Here’s what you can expect:

5th Sundays are for elementary-age kids.

We’ll have pirates. We’ll have puppets. We’ll have singing. We’ll have kid-targeted teaching.

5th Sundays are for parents.

We’ll have ways for you to learn and worship with your kids. We’ll teach the Bible in ways that can help you connect your kids to God’s Word too.

5th Sundays are for all adults.

We’ll sing great worship songs. We’ll work through a biblical text in an exegetically sound way.

5th Sundays are for the church.

We’ll gather together—young and old—to remember God, to celebrate redemption, and offer ourselves back to Him.

There is a biblical pattern for what we are doing. While ancient families worshiped together regularly, there were also special events and festivals where solid biblical teaching was made especially accessible for kids. Think of the Passover meal and the role of the family in teaching kids about God’s saving work. Think of Ezra and the Levites teaching all of the Israelites (including the kids) so that everyone could understand (Neh 8).

I am incredibly excited about this opportunity to learn, worship, and grow together!

Parent Partnership: Wednesday (4/26/23) and Sunday (4/30/23)

Everything a parent/volunteer team-member needs to know about this week is below. You’ll find the Scripture passages, the specific pages in our children’s Bible, the teaching video, and some questions to use at home. We use The Beginner’s Gospel Story Bible and RightNowMedia for teaching and Planning Center Services for scheduling.

On Wednesday, we will have KidsOnMission and kids choir. Dinner is $3 for individual kids with a $7 max for families. Kids choir is at 5:15pm (for 5k-5th grade) and KidsOnMission officially starts at 6pm.
  • We will be learning about the Great Commission (MATTHEW 28:16-20, MARK 16:14-16, LUKE 24:50-53).

On Sunday, there are exciting things happening as well! At 9am, our kids get into the Word in Sunday School. Our kids are under the Word during the Gathering:
  • Preschoolers will continue moving through the The Beginner’s Gospel Story Bible. We are looking at Story 17: The Walls Fall Down.

  • Elementary students will join their parents during the message for our 5th Sunday special Gathering (read about that above).

Family Prayer Prompt: God, you are the biggest, the strongest, and the best. You have no rivals. You have no weaknesses. Nothing is hard for you. Help us to trust you and to follow you more and more.
